PTC is excited to invite you to our Women's Conference! We are pleased to announce that Janet Riley will be our guest speaker. She will be speaking from Psalm 33 & 42 about ‘Songs of the Heart’ which captures well a Psalm of praise (33) and one of lament (42). Janet will unpack both Psalm 33 & 42 and will discuss practical ways that we can find joy in the Lord and persevere in times of spiritual draught. We look forward to meeting together as women to encourage each other and 'spur one another on toward love and good deeds' (Hebrews 10:24) WHEN: Saturday 11th November from 10:00am – 3:30pm WHERE: 684 Elgar Rd, Box Hill North, VIC 3129 For further information please call the Office on 03 9898 9384 or email: info@ptc.edu.au We look forward to see you there! Meet the Speaker Janet Riley In God’s kindness, Janet enjoyed growing up with parents who love the Lord Jesus and the blessing of faithful Bible teaching pastors and churches. It was through these God brought her by his grace to know Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. After a decade in rural veterinary practice and a short stint in Africa, Janet returned to Sydney to study theology at Sydney Missionary and Bible College. On graduation she continued at SMBC in a pastoral role and taught students in Greek and preaching for fifteen years. Two years ago, Janet moved from the college to join the pastoral team at Drummoyne Presbyterian Church where it’s a delight to serve the saints and introduce those yet to believe to Jesus.Janet loves spending time with her extended family, and the banter and deeper conversation of shared meals with them.Life with Jesus at the centre is a roller coaster and Janet is thankful for the Lord’s gift of the Psalms to sing through the valleys, on the mountain tops, and the slopes in between. PTC Free Public Lecture Slavery in the New TestamentSlavery is a pressing issue in our contemporary world, and the consequences of slavery in previous centuries continues to shape our politics and culture. We see slavery in the world of the New Testament as well, and nowhere more so than in Paul’s letter to Philemon. How should we understand slavery in the ancient world? What do the Apostle Paul and other New Testament writers have to say about it? How does the problem of slavery in the New Testament teach us about the role of the gospel in transforming societies, even today? Come to PTC for a free public lecture on slavery in the New Testament by David Briones, who is visiting our college from Westminster Seminary California. David has done extensive research on Philemon and is currently engaged in writing a commentary on this brief and fascinating letter from Paul. When: Wednesday 31 July starts from 7:30pmWhere: 684 Elgar Road, Box Hill North 3129 Lecture will be followed by a Q&A session. Light supper will be provided.
