The PTC community pauses lectures to meet for corporate worship usually at 10:00 am on Tues-Thurs mornings during lecture periods. This reminds students that they are at PTC for more than academic reasons and gives students an opportunity to grow more confident in preaching and leading in public worship and prayer.
We generally aim for the worship to follow the practices of a typical congregation. However, the time available within the College curriculum is limited, so we usually keep things fairly short. Details are in the worship-leading roster that is produced for every semester. A link to the roster is provided in Teams (for PTC staff and students only). Go to the relevant channel in the ‘Resources and Admin‘ team).
The Tuesday and Thursday worship times usually include preaching. On Tuesdays, we often have a guest minister as the preacher, and Thursdays are usually allocated to students who are preparing for the ordained ministry.
The semester roster mentions some of the key requests we make of preachers. We aim for the preaching to model what congregational preaching looks like, so we prefer it if visiting preachers repeat a message they have recently delivered in a congregational setting. Preachers are reminded not to single out ministry students for sole attention, as there will be other people in the room, including students studying for personal growth, staff, and lecturers.
The Principal or the student leader for the day will choose the songs. Songs should be chosen from the projection-software database. Rejoice!, the ‘College Songbook’, and a Psalms book are available but are not normally needed.
The database of songs has a selection of both traditional and contemporary songs, including a small number of Psalms-related songs. One aim is to ensure that ministry students gain familiarity with a range of songs that will enable them to participate in worship in various congregational and ministry settings.
The lyrics of songs will be accessible during worship times on any device connected to the campus network. In a browser, go to:
Lyrics are also available in a PDF in the relevant channel in the ‘Resources and Admin‘ team.
Online students are welcome to attend the worship times in Teams (the Teams link is above). There is a link within Teams to the lyrics so that online attendees can join the singing (but with mics off).
