Welcome to the website of the Presbyterian Theological College of Victoria. My name is Peter Hastie and I am the Principal of the College. If you’re interested in theological studies I know you will be very concerned about which College you attend. I know I was, because I spent a lot of time investigating the issue.
I visited a number of institutions and even went interstate to check out some of the various options. I am glad I did because my choice had a significant bearing on my preparation for ministry.
Some of you, no doubt, will have specific vocational ambitions in Christian ministry, while others of you may simply want to have a more informed and intelligent faith that adds maturity, depth and wisdom to your Christian witness.
So why come to PTC? That’s a good question. If you believe that the Scriptures are central to your worldview, crucial to your spiritual growth, and essential for equipping you for the mission in life that God has planned for you, then you will find that you are on the same page as us. We are a Christian community where the Bible is central to every subject that we study.
This means that our focus is on understanding the inspired Scriptures with the help of the Holy Spirit, especially in their original languages. We believe that the Bible is God’s inerrant word and the rule and guide for all we do.
Second, we believe that that it’s not enough to study the Bible academically. We must also be renewed by God’s word into the likeness of Christ. Theological study, if it’s real, must necessarily involve life transformation.
Finally, we not only want to improve your knowledge; we are also here to help you perfect your God-given gifts through supervised opportunities in ministry and pastoral care within the church.
