THE PRE-CANONICAL 'GOSPEL' Most Christians assume that the canonical Gospels are the first records of the life and teachings of Jesus. But Luke 1:1 states that “many have undertaken to compile a narrative” about Jesus. What are these prior stories that circulated before the evangelist set pen to paper? In this public lecture, Dr. Greg Lanier (Ph.D. Cambridge) will discuss the evidence for how the story of Jesus circulated before the four Gospels were written—and what this may mean for how we should approach the Gospels themselves. DR GREGORY LANIER Dr Lanier has been teaching at RTS Orlando since 2016, in the areas of NT exegesis, Greek, and preaching. He has published on NT canon, NT textual criticism, the Septuagint, early Christology, the relationship of the New Testament to the Old, and the exegesis and theology of Luke-Acts. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session. Attendees will have an opportunity to win copies of some of Dr Lanier's recent books. Is Jesus Truly God? A great defence of how the New Testament proclaims the deity of Jesus Christ. Old Made New An accessible and helpful introduction to how the New Testament uses the Old Testament.
Worship is the very heart of Christianity and is essential to the vitality of the human spirit. It is our greatest privilege in this life and our unending joy in the next. It is therefore of utmost importance that we know who we worship, how we worship, why we worship, and even when we should worship. This course will help you to understand biblical perspectives on the theology and practice of Christian Worship, and appreciate not only the biblical teaching on worship, but also the vast stream of Christian practice over millennia that can help us better understand what Christian worship is. It was through these God brought her by his grace to know Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. On graduation she continued at SMBC in a pastoral role and taught students in Greek and preaching for fifteen years. Two years ago, Janet moved from the college to join the pastoral team at Drummoyne Presbyterian Church where it’s a delight to serve the saints and introduce those yet to believe to Jesus.Janet loves spending time with her extended family, and the banter and deeper conversation of shared meals with them.Life with Jesus at the centre is a roller coaster and Janet is thankful for the Lord’s gift of the Psalms to sing through the valleys, on the mountain tops, and the slopes in between.
